Meet the Staff – Sandy Animal Clinic

VETERINARIANS

Jennifer Betz, DVM Jennifer Betz, DVM

Dr. Jennifer Betz was born and raised in South Florida.  Growing up on a lake in Miami, she found herself constantly rescuing orphaned and/or injured baby ducks, birds, toads and other animals. At the age of 10, she lost the German Shepard Dog she grew up with, from the poisoning of the very same toads she often rescued. At this young age she realized her calling to help animals in need and aspired to become a veterinarian. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of South Florida in 1993. After being accepted as one, out of only ten, out of state students accepted to Auburn University College of Veterinary, She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1997. After practicing for one year in Alabama she relocated to Oregon to be closer to the mountains.  Dr. Betz dreamed of owning her own veterinary practice and in 2002 she became the owner of Sandy Animal Clinic. Her professional interests are in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. When she is not practicing at Sandy Animal Clinic, she spends her time working as a Federal Employee for DHHS, National Disaster Medical Systems, on the National Veterinary Response Team (NVRT) where she was instrumental in the relief efforts during Hurricane Sandy’s Aftermath in Brooklyn, New York.  Dr. Betz also works as a professional veterinary responder for the ASPCA with Field Investigations & Response (FIR), working on anti-cruelty cases such as dogfighting, cock fighting, hoarding and puppy mills. Dr. Betz is an active member of the AVMA, PVMA, VMAT-5 and OVERT. In her spare time she often volunteers her time providing veterinary medicine and surgery in underdeveloped countries with different organizations such as Veterinary Ventures (where she acts as a board member), CANDi, Animal Balance and AVMF.  In her personal life she enjoys hiking with her boyfriend and competing in Dock Dogs and Extreme Air Dogs competitions with her Yellow Labrador, Sidney and Golden Retriever, Roxy. 


Craig Loftin, DVM Craig Loftin, DVM

Dr. Craig Loftin was born and raised in Northern California. He served honorably in the United States Marines for six years, then attended the University of California, Davis where he received his Bachelor’s in Veterinary Science in 1998 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Dr. Loftin was in private practice in California and Washington from 2001-2004, when he was accepted for a one year rotating medical and surgical internship at a large private specialty practice in Los Angeles. Following the rotating internship, Dr. Loftin completed an additional year internship in surgery at the same practice. Dr. Loftin joined Sandy Animal Clinic in July, 2006. His professional interests are surgical and medical management of cancer, soft tissue surgery, and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Loftin and his wife enjoy reading, hiking, and watching their two children grow.


Christine Kurowski, DVMChristine Kurowski, DVM

Dr. Christine Kurowski grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While in school she did an internship at the Anti-cruelty Society of Chicago, worked at the University sheep farm, and learned to care for all animals, large and small. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian, graduating from University of Illinois with her DVM in 2005. Following graduation she began working at a multi-doctor private practice near her hometown. In the summer of 2011 Dr. Kurowski moved to Oregon and joined Sandy Animal Clinic in September 2011. Dr. Kurowski has a passion for soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery and building long lasting doctor-client relationships. Dr. Kurowski enjoys hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her husband and her mixed breed dog, Jack.


Casey Spencer, DVMCasey Spencer, DVM

Dr. Casey Spencer grew up in Monticello, IL and attended the University of Urbana-Champaign for her undergraduate degree in animal sciences. She then attended Ross University for her veterinary degree. Dr. Spencer spent many summers and school breaks traveling to other countries to help animals in need. After graduation, she moved to Oregon to work as a small animal veterinarian and joined Sandy Animal Clinic in June of 2013. Dr. Spencer’s interests are pain management, animal weight loss and client education. Dr. Spencer spends her free time exploring the outdoors with her boyfriend and Mona, her

Brandy Kagerer grew up in the small town of Okoboji, Iowa. She began working at the local veterinary clinic in 1998 as a kennel assistant then was trained as a technician and groomer. After three years in the veterinary field, Brandy’s desire to gain more knowledge in management and human resources lead her to peruse opportunities offered in hotel management. Brandy has managed several multi-million dollar hotels including some in the Hilton Hotel chain. In 2004 she moved to Oregon with her husband and 3 children. Her love for animals left her wanting to get back in to the veterinary field. Shortly after moving to Oregon she began working for Sandy Animal Clinic as a receptionist and was promoted to manager the next year.  Brandy was awarded the Hospital Manager of the Year by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association in 2015.  When Brandy is not managing Sandy Animal Clinic, she enjoys spending time with her family and visiting the ocean.


 

VETERINARY TECHNICIANS

Stefanie

Stefanie was born and raised in Oregon. She started working as a veterinary receptionist and has worked her way up to become a technician. She lives in Sandy with her husband, two kids, two dogs and two cats. Stefanie Enjoys spending time with her family playing soccer, football, reading And being in the outdoors.

Roxanne

Roxanne was born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Kauai. She is a technician who has been working in the veterinary field for five years. She enjoys gardening, knitting and many tabletop games.

Jennifer

Jennifer has been working as a veterinary technician for 5 years. In her spare time she enjoys teaching and performing salsa, reading and spending time with her pit bull mix Vasco.

Linda at Sandy Animal Clinic

Linda

Linda was born and raised in Oregon has been in the veterinary industry for over 26 years. She spends her time with her two dogs, four cats, and two horses.

Cindy

Cindy is a long time resident of the Sandy area and is proud to say that she is part of the Sandy Animal Clinic Team. Cindy has worked as a veterinary technician for many years and finds passion in supporting pet owners and their four legged, furry family members. She enjoys spending time together and exploring Oregon’s beautiful outdoors with her husband, daughter, and three dogs, Manly, Bandit, and Little.

Brianna was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Sanford-Brown College in Portland with an AS degree in veterinary technology in 2013. Brianna has worked in research medicine and emergency medicine prior to joining Sandy Animal clinic. We’re not working, Brianna enjoys dancing, hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, and has a deep interest in environmental conservation. Brianna is excited to contribute to Sandy’s community of furry friends.

Kaitlin

Kaitlin is a certified veterinary technician who graduated form Parkland College Veterinary Technician Program in Champaign, IL in 2006. Kaitlin is active with her dog Annie (a registered AAT dog) in the read to the dogs program through the library. When Kaitlin is not at work, volunteering, or Being a mom to her 2 kids and soon to be 3, she enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 chickens.

Robin was born and raised in Texas and has recently relocated to Oregon. Robin started working as a veterinary technician in 2016. She has a one eyed put bull named Cain and a lovely lab mix named Jade. When Robin is not working at Cindy animal clinic she enjoys reading, long walks on the beach, traveling and food.

Michelle at Sandy Animal Clinic

Michelle

Michelle has over 15 years experience in the human medical field and has been with Sandy animal clinic since 2011. She lives in Sandy with her four children, two dogs, and one fat cat. In her free time Michelle enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest with her family.

Cathy at Sandy Animal Clinic

Cathy

Cathy has been working as a veterinary receptionist at our clinic for over three years. She lives in Colton with her three dogs and numerous cats. Cathy enjoys spending time with her family and pets, reading and working around her property.

Kaylee

Kaylee was born and raised in the Portland area.  She has been in the veterinary industry for over a year, working as a veterinary assistant and a receptionist. Kaylee enjoys being active, hiking, snowboarding, rock climbing, and riding dirt bikes.  She enjoys being around pets of all kinds and can’t wait to own 20 cats of her own.

Lexi

Lexi started working as a receptionist for Sandy Animal Clinic in 2016. Lexi was born and raised in Gresham, OR. She loves spending time in the outdoors, hiking the gorge and up Mt. hood. She adopted a 5 year old Yorkie and loves to take her hiking. She has a love for all animals.

Natalie

Natalie started working as a receptionist at Sandy Animal Clinic in 2016. She was born and raised in Oregon and grew up showing quarter horses in the ABRA circuit and 4H. Natalie has a boxer name Henry and enjoys hiking riding horses and going on fun adventures with her dog.
